DESCRIPTION OF EVENT:
Aviation and Space Education Teacher In-service Workshop
The planning committee for the Great Lakes International Aviation
Conference (GLIAC) is pleased to announce the Aviation and Space Education
Teacher In-service Workshop, held in conjunction with the FAA's Aviation
and Space Education Program (AVSED). The workshop is scheduled for
February 19, 2010 at the Rock Financial Showplace in Novi, Michigan.
AVSED is recognized as an authority in aerospace education, providing
resource consulting services, and expertise on various aspects of civil
aviation and commercial space education. Our workshop will include a
variety of activities and projects. The presenters will introduce middle
and secondary education teachers to the many career opportunities in the
next generation aerospace work force. In addition, they will identify the
skills, knowledge, and abilities necessary for their students to be
successful in pursuing these opportunities.
Over the past ten years, the GLIAC has developed steadily into the
premier event of its kind in the Midwest. The conference is a
comprehensive aviation showcase that touches nearly every aspect of the
aviation industry. "We are excited about the addition of the teacher
workshop to this year’s event,” said Todd Smith, the Conference
Coordinator. “It will certainly broaden and enhance the conference.”
Educators who attend the GLIAC will experience nationally renowned
aviation speakers, an extensive career fair, and an expansive industry
trade show with over 100 industry exhibitors. In addition, graduate credit
is available. “The GLIAC provides an incredible experience for educators,”
said Dr. Philip Tartalone, Chair of the Planning Committee and Eastern
Michigan University Aviation Program Coordinator. “The hands-on
opportunities, and STEM principles that the conference provides, are
invaluable resources for the teachers to take back to their classrooms.”
Teachers may register specifically for Friday’s Aerospace Workshop, or
expand their participation by registering for the full conference. The
GLIAC dates are set for February 19-20, 2010. The Rock Financial Showplace
is a state-of-the-art facility, and is easily accessible from I-96.
